Sonalysts, Inc. Releases Fuzzy Query for Excel WATERFORD, CT (March 1999) -- Sonalysts, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of Fuzzy Query for Excel. The Waterford, CT company has developed this Microsoft ® Excel add-in to allow users to conduct data analysis of spreadsheet data using the semantic power and flexibility of fuzzy logic. Fuzzy Query for Excel is a 32-bit Microsoft Excel (Excel 97 and newer) add-in that brings Fuzzy Query functionality directly to the world's most popular spreadsheet application. "We see that there is a significant gap in the data analysis tools market from traditional spreadsheet and SQL-based tools on one end of the spectrum, to knowledge discovery and data mining tools on the other," says Tony Cowden, Manager of the Fuzzy Systems Solutions business unit. "Fuzzy Query technology is a true data analysis tool that effectively bridges that gap." Fuzzy Query technology allows the user to identify the records that best meet the semantic intent of his query. Traditional data analysis functionality in spreadsheets is generally limited by the reliance on algebraic operations and discrete threshold parameters and ranges of values. Fuzzy Query allows for a more natural representation of the semantic terms (adjectives) that make up complex data analysis statements. Fuzzy Query returns the degree to which a row in the spreadsheet meets the natural language meaning, or intent, of the data analysis statement.
